Prince of Songkla University is the main university in the South established for regional development with the growth of education related to the southern areas including industrial development which is the important base for the development of the nation’s economic system. For the last 50 years, Prince of Songkla University has performed its potential and strength in research at a leading level in the nation.

However, taking existing research results and knowledge body in the university which are assets of the important intellectual property for the national development under the policies of Knowledge-Based Economy and Creative Economy Society is an ongoing process to a certain extent not concretely observed because of the lacking mechanism and working system proper to connect between the university and industrial sectors.

On May 29, 2012, Prince of Songkla University received support from the government to prepare readiness for establishing the Southern Thailand Science Park. Prince of Songkla University has been the host with budget allocation through the Office of the Secretariat of the Science Park Business Promotion Committee (TISI) under the Office of the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Science and Technology (NSTDA).
